I know this has been going on for a while, but the wiring is now done, well it is at a stage where the car will run and I could go testing, the rest I have been promised is in the post! In the picture below you can see the anderson plug. I think I might drill a hole in the body so the door doesnt have to be opened, but that is not exactly pressing at the moment.

Wiring
Sunday, November 8th, 2009More Programming
Tuesday, September 29th, 2009OK, well after a phone call to Motec, I have got the dash talking to the ECU, and got the sensors all calibrated. Getting the sensors calibrated was not the easiest thing, and in fact took the all day to do! The problem being that Motec didnt have them in their pre-defined list and the sensors were just effectively variable resistors. However the M400 can only read in a voltage, and not knowing the rest of the circuit I couldnt change from one to the other. I have sure there will just be either a pull up or down resistor and the voltage will come out between, or something similar.
It also turns out that the document I had from AIM had a typo on the CAN address, hence the inability to get them all talking. Pop in the right address and bingo, it all suddenly worked!
So, depending on time on Sunday after the Britcar 500, I will try to get the airbox, overflow bottle and/or GCU sorted. hmmmm looks doubtful!
Programming
Monday, September 28th, 2009The wiring is now at a state where the ECU, GCU and dash can all be programmed etc. Obviously the map is already in the ECU but some auxiliary sensors needed configuring aswell as inputs from the GCU and outputs to the dash. I first tried to install the software for the dash, this all went well until trying to install the usb drivers! This then took about six hours. I have now worked out how to do it (the documentation just assumes it works)! Then the GCU. Once the ash had been installed the GCU usb drivers suddenly started working aswell. I think the dash had just messed everything up! Now the ECU. There was an instant problem with this in that when I plugged in the download cable it would connect and the disconnect continuously! A thought struck me so I disconnected the loom and used the dyno loom and all was well. I then thought that perhaps the dash was messing up, as it had caused a few problems already! I disconnected it and suddenly everything started working!
New Isolator and Extinguisher Wiring
Monday, September 28th, 2009Avid readers will notice the recent theme of all things wiring. And the saga continues! In a previous post I said I was using a really very nice small electronic isolator. However having tried to use them on the 935 a few things have come to light and we have decided to bin them and go for the more traditional type. This has caused a few wires to have to be extended and moved, but it should all now work! Yes it looks like the sort of thing you find in your fuse box but we have used these on the Lotus and they are really good! You can also see where the extinguisher control box is mounted.
Wiring Loom
Wednesday, September 16th, 2009Right, well after a bit of a drought of updates, due mainly to work commitments so cant really complain, I finally have a reasonable update! Paul has delivered most of the chassis loom. The main body is there, but a few things need plugs attaching and the high power battery cables need doing etc etc. But this has allowed me to make a start at clipping the loom in!
Below is the GCU, the cables heading both forward and backwards and loom to the switch panel.
