Engine Out?!

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Now, I know I am supposed to be building the Arachnid, but Neil from GEARTRONICS asked me if he could borrow some kit from my engine for the paddleshift. Seeing as the wiring is not done yet, I helped Neil out. This did however involve removing the engine.

Air Scoop

Monday, October 12th, 2009

This weekend I picked up the air scoops that I showed the buck of before. I have had them made in carbon as basically it didnt cost me anything and I thought it looked pretty snazzy! Although its not vacuumed, due to lack of time, but they may arrive in a sometime next year! They need a little trim and then fitting. Things are really coming together.

Air Box

OK, I know, no updates for AGES, but things have been manic here! We have just emplyed a new member to our team to help out!

Getting back on topic I promised a while ago I would get a photo of the airbox, and true to my word here it is. Now, its not totally finished, as it will need trimming to fit under the body, but I am pretty pleased with how is turning out so far!

Air Ducting

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Now normally I would be VERY against deliberately making something that would have a negative effect on the aero, BUT engine life is more important. The current setup of the car means that the engine bay has no real moving air. If however there was some moving air causing the hot air off the headers to be blown out the back, and perhaps causing a little cool air to be blown over the engine, that would have to be a good thing! So, I have added a naca duct in front of the engine as seen below. This obviously removes some air from the floor but hopefully will help engine life and keep everything a little cooler!

Air Box

In order to help the engine I am trying to get a nice source of cold air to the inlet trumpets. What I have decided is to draw in the air and duct it to a box around the inlets. I wanted to keep the original ally base plate for the filter as it is made of a ‘hard’ ally and should be better, so have made up this plate to go below the base plate and then weld a return all the way around.
