Engine Out Again :(

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

As I previously mentioned, to fix the electrical issue, I actually think the fix is a part swap. However to do this I have had to take the engine out. while the engine was out, I did give it a quick once over, tappets etc, but all was found to be fine so at least that is good news!!! You can also see that the car is running once again on the super stiff dampers… Only however until the revalved dampers return from Penski. Its a shame that the engine has had to come out again, but its actually not so bad to do, but I do have a few things I would like to change over the winter…

Clean Up

Monday, June 7th, 2010

After the somewhat aborted test at Brands, due to the electrical issue, I have spent a fare bit of time, with others also, musing over the electrical gremlin and some aero improvements. However the first issue was/is to clean up the car and make sure nothing is damaged/worn etc. The passenger side CV decided to throw some grease out. This was actually because we overfilled it, after advice from a colleague… But once it had thrown out what it wanted it seemed to settle down so at least no real damage!

Oil Filter

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

I have not yet finished the oil cooler, hopefully next week, but to help save it, I have decided to run a filter. I ordered a Mocal oil filter housing with #12 fittings on it. I then nipped to the local motor factors to get a filter and it turns out to be the same filter as an Aston something or other. Only the highest quality for me!!!! hmm…

Engine Back In

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

OK, so after a bit of a clean, although not a full clean, it was time to start thinking about putting the engine back in. However, before I could put the engine back in, and the reason it is still out of the chassis, I needed to modify the fuel pump arrangement for the new system. As I now have two independent fuel tank, I am using two lift pumps to pump fuel from the separate tanks into a, not yet finished, fuel collector. Then the pressure pump takes its feed from here to the fuel rail, and the fuel rail returns to the collector. This however means a bit of a reshuffle of the pumps etc.

Generator

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Now, I know I have put up a picture of the old generator before, but I thought I would show the comparison of new and old. You can see the damaged windings in the old, but the whole thing looks a little discoloured. This may just be a different potting compound but some areas are darker than others. I cant see any physical damage to the rotor, so I can only assume that when the original reg/rec went wrong it may have either been caused by this, or perhaps have actually caused it. But I am not too sure.
