Engine Update

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

No pics here, just an update on the engine itself. The engine has been installed on the dyno, and th ECU re calibrated for the change in crank wheel etc. It has now been fired up and run continuously for a reasonable amount of time, admittedly not under real load, but it was stopping before when idling! It will be put under load on Monday just to check, but at least at the moment it is starting and running correctly!

Engine Out Again :(

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

As I previously mentioned, to fix the electrical issue, I actually think the fix is a part swap. However to do this I have had to take the engine out. while the engine was out, I did give it a quick once over, tappets etc, but all was found to be fine so at least that is good news!!! You can also see that the car is running once again on the super stiff dampers… Only however until the revalved dampers return from Penski. Its a shame that the engine has had to come out again, but its actually not so bad to do, but I do have a few things I would like to change over the winter…

Generator

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Now, I know I have put up a picture of the old generator before, but I thought I would show the comparison of new and old. You can see the damaged windings in the old, but the whole thing looks a little discoloured. This may just be a different potting compound but some areas are darker than others. I cant see any physical damage to the rotor, so I can only assume that when the original reg/rec went wrong it may have either been caused by this, or perhaps have actually caused it. But I am not too sure.

125cc 2 Stroke Bike Trickery

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

OK, so this has nothing to do with the Arachnid, but I thought that some chaps might find it interesting! I have been asked to develop system to help stop 2 stroke bike engines from seizing after extended periods of full throttle, without having to make the main jet any larger, so you can jet for max power. This is actually going to be used in the British Championship this year!

Obviously this is just the development board, and the pot on the right is just for testing purposes. When its all done I will design a PCB and get a batch made up. It will be user configurable, although I will obviously stick in some reasonable settings to make it work straight out of the box!
