Diff Mounts

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

As I have previously said I am going to experiment with a different diff. Of course the diff has a different offset to the other one, and so I was forced to realign it somewhat! So that I can use the original diff I did not want to cannibalise the original diff plates. This meant a bit of a rethink, but I think I now have a pretty nice solution to the problem. I have decided to hard mount the diff to the engine cradle, this removing a link in the train from diff to engine to aid alignment, and should mean that the diff wont move when power is applied and then removed, BUT does mean it has to be aligned correctly.

The first thing then was to draw up some plates. These should get the diff in the same place as the original, and so everything else should fit.

Finishing Off The Diff

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

I have finished up assembling the diff this evening. To be honest all that was left was to make the O rings. I had bought a length of material from the local factors and they just said to glue it together with super glue and it should be OK. So, fingers crossed.

Now I say its all done. I do however need to finish off the piece that goes between the plates, but hopefully it will be done soon, then it will all be done

Second Diff

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

OK OK, so I am not actually running a second diff! But what I am doing, while I am still fabricating the car and its not too much bother to add an extra bracket here or there, is to allow for the installation of a different Diff.

I picked up the reverse parts from Jon today. I haven’t actually got round to doing anything with them but here are some pics anyway

Sprockets

Monday, February 18th, 2008

I also received my sprockets this weekend. They were custom made by a company called ‘Special Sprocket Services’. They are very nice pieces of kit Imust say. I was somewhat concerned over whether or not to go for split sprockets. The advantages being quick ratio changes, although you can obviously change the front engine sprocket, but the split sprocket obviously being weaker.
