Ducting

Monday, September 6th, 2010

There has been a bit of a drought of updates, but this one is fairly long to compensate! It actually covers a LOT of work and writing it into a single post does not do it justice!

The updates to the car continue at both ends. The front wheels have been fully enclosed. The bendy shape here allows is for steering lock. You can see that the diffuser is now totally separated, well as best as possible, from the air circulating with the wheel.

Engine Bay Cooling

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Carrying on from cockpit cooling, I thought that it might be a good idea to try to get more heat out of the engine bay. The plan being this would mean less would come into the cockpit! To do this I am in the process of adding some louvers to the rear panel. What I intend to do is glue/rivet ally pieces to make the louvers to experiment. Once its all sorted I will then update the mould for panel and make a new one, as with its of ally all over the place it will look a bit ratty!

Cockpit Cooling

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

an issue that became apparent at Brands was that I had totally overlooked cooling of the driver! I have in fact done my best to cook him, with an almost perfectly sealed cockpit. This was a bit of an oversight but nothing that cant be fixed. So the idea is to take in some air from in front of the bubble, where it is high pressure, and exit it somewhere where there is low pressure, as shown (ish) below.

Car in Store?

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

While I am waiting to finish the oil cooler, I have put my car into our temporary store so we can carry on with other customer cars. You car see below the size difference between the Arachnid and a Juno…

The cooler should be here in a couple of weeks, but I have designed the second fuel tank and ordered all the refuelling equipment. Nothing has arrived yet, but activity will increase again when it all does!

Oil Cooler

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Although the oil cooling was much better, I have decided that I want to be able to control the temperature and be able to run tape over the cooler! This means that I need a CTR Developments oil cooler! We make these ourselves but do take quite a time, 5-6 weeks, but there is nothing better. However I needed to make a drawing for the cooler, hence the scribbles on the bodywork! Hopefully I will have it ready in time for the first race…
