Head padding

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

I am not sure if you strictly HAVE to have a head pad, in fact I am pretty sure you dont, but I think its a pretty good idea! What I have decided to do is to start with a simple one, and if it needs modding it wont have cost anything so it wont really matter! Luckily my mother is into her craft and had some upholstery foam lying around which I managed to convince her she didnt really want anymore!

Chassis Wiring Tags

I am mounting all of the major electronics, ECU, GCU Radio etc, on the passenger side. However I need a main earthing point to the chassis, so I welded one on!

Seat Belt Mounts

Monday, May 4th, 2009

As I had made the seat, the next logical thing to tackle was the belts. Previously I had made up some mounts for the shoulder straps but not welded them in. This meant that at least that task was done so one less thing to do now!

First up was to mark where they needed to go. I sat in the seat and got Dad to mark my neck with some masking tape. As I am using a Hans Device, I need to make the belts actually slightly narrower than my nect so as to not slip off the Hans.

Seat

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

OK, so I have already made a seat so why another? Well, after looking at the first for a while I ddnt think it was all that great. Mainly because I have bought, what I thought was right, the bead seat for a single seater. However, probably because I am not very good at it but, it didnt seem to really have enough beads in it. So I decided that as this is a fairly critical item, I should just buy the biggest one I could get and redo it!

I also had a bit of a rethink about the technique and decided that if I could stop the beads from flowing over it might also help. So that first job was to gutter in the seat a bit with some offcuts of ally taped in position.

Rear Support Frame

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Whilst the welder was all set up for the light plates, I thought I would get a few extra rear deck supports welded to the frame. You may remember that before the rear edge was only held on with 2 dzeus fasteners and so where it was cutout for the wing supports it twisted up and didnt sit flat. It was also able to bounce a little which would only lead to fracture so a few extra mounts were needed. I havent actually attached the dzeus fasteners yet, or indeed drilled anything for them, but that shouldnt take too long to do, well hopefully!
