Testing at Silverstone

Monday, September 6th, 2010

With the car effectively being a new one after all the updates/changes etc, we were out at Silverstone on Friday in preparation for the upcoming LMS event this week. In fact we took both cars for the day as both Richard and I are racing.

The car ran well and the temperature inside the cabin was MUCH improved. The aero updates also made a big improvement. Unfortunately I lost half the day as a front wheel bearing failed after three laps. We managed to find a replacement and get it fitted for the afternoon though. The car then ran round and apart from a slight issue with the downshift, it turns out the throttle cable has slightly settled meaning the blip didnt operate the butterflies, the car ran well.

I didnt puch too hard as I had never driven the circuit and have not exactly really driven the car! that and all the changed meant I was cautious and after a few laps would come in to get the team to check it over before going out for some more laps.

Mainly though it was an absolute blast and I am now really excited about this weekend. I am not expecting too much  result wise, but a finish I think would be a real result after all the hard work and effort.

Ducting

There has been a bit of a drought of updates, but this one is fairly long to compensate! It actually covers a LOT of work and writing it into a single post does not do it justice!

The updates to the car continue at both ends. The front wheels have been fully enclosed. The bendy shape here allows is for steering lock. You can see that the diffuser is now totally separated, well as best as possible, from the air circulating with the wheel.
