I was somewhat dreading plumbing up the fuel filling pipes. Only because I could see it was going to be very fiddly and take an inordinate amount of time! The first job was to make some ally T pieces. These were just made of 2 inch ally tube, although I had noticed that 2 inch pipe and samco all seemed to be about the same size, whereas what was sold as 2 inch necks on the filler plate appeared to be more like 2.5 inch! Anyway, the samco stretched enough so it wasnt really a problem, just very awkward!
After a bit of head scratching and chopping of the T pieces, I had what is shown in the picture below. Unfortunately I forgot to order a 45 degree samco bend, but will try to get one for early next week! The drivers side tank is quite easy to fill but getting the fuel over to the other side was difficult. In the end I decided to go around the rear of the engine and then wind it forwards to the tank.
The next job was the difficult part! Getting the fuel to the filling necks on the tank. To do this though, the ally pipe needed to bend a little or get some dents to miss the neck of the oil tank and an engine mounting bolt. However I couldnt just use the press to dent the ally pipe as it risked flattening the tube and then it would never seal to the samco. So I turned up some bungs to keep the ends of the tube nice and round and then used the press to push some bar into the tube to dent it.
Below is the final tube. Its not exactly pretty but perfectly serviceable!
Here is a shot of the tube in situ
This picture shows more clearly the requirements for the dents.
Below is the final plumbing. Its all fairly busy in there! But should all work.
