Fuel Filling System

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

I was somewhat dreading plumbing up the fuel filling pipes. Only because I could see it was going to be very fiddly and take an inordinate amount of time! The first job was to make some ally T pieces. These were just made of 2 inch ally tube, although I had noticed that 2 inch pipe and samco all seemed to be about the same size, whereas what was sold as 2 inch necks on the filler plate appeared to be more like 2.5 inch! Anyway, the samco stretched enough so it wasnt really a problem, just very awkward!

Fuel Pressure System

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

As I have two fuel tanks, although often a good idea anyway, I have decided to use a fuel collector. The one I have made is approx 1 litre capacity, which should give plenty of running without picking anything out of the main tank. I have used #4 pipe from the main tanks to this, and for the return both from the engine and to the tanks to try to keep down the weight. Below is the position of the collector, at the rear of the car on the drivers side.

Dump Churns

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Today task was to try to get the position of the dump churn plate finalised. I have previously guessed a position for the plate, and my rough plan is to mount it from the rear cage somehow. The first issue is that the angle of the cage support doesn’t match the angle of the body so the rear of the plate would need to be lifted up. For a first guess I taped the quick lift hadle across the gap.

Oil Filter

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

I have not yet finished the oil cooler, hopefully next week, but to help save it, I have decided to run a filter. I ordered a Mocal oil filter housing with #12 fittings on it. I then nipped to the local motor factors to get a filter and it turns out to be the same filter as an Aston something or other. Only the highest quality for me!!!! hmm…

Rear End Mods

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

With a bit more time to spend on the car over the bank holiday, we were out in the workshop early on Saturday to make a concerted start. I struggled the exhaust headers on then bolted the engine into position. Next up was to mount the diff. I mounted the diff in, and then realised that I had forgotten the chain! D’oh!
