125cc 2 Stroke Bike Trickery

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

OK, so this has nothing to do with the Arachnid, but I thought that some chaps might find it interesting! I have been asked to develop system to help stop 2 stroke bike engines from seizing after extended periods of full throttle, without having to make the main jet any larger, so you can jet for max power. This is actually going to be used in the British Championship this year!

Obviously this is just the development board, and the pot on the right is just for testing purposes. When its all done I will design a PCB and get a batch made up. It will be user configurable, although I will obviously stick in some reasonable settings to make it work straight out of the box!

Fuel System Update

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

After what seems an age of no updates, I can say that things will get back to normal service soon! The second fuel tank, required for longer races, such as SPEED, has been made. I have also modified the original tank to now have duel 2 inch inlet pipes. This is for the ATL refuelling system, that will be with me on Monday. One to allow the fuel in, and the other the air out. This does mean that there will be a bit more plumbing inside the engine bay, but without it cant see an option to fill the car safely mid race!

Anyway, with the Easter break looming I am hoping to get the car back to a stage where I can test it again! I am not sure I will have finished the end tank for the oil cooler, but I hope that will not cause me too much problem, and fitting that shouldn’t be too much of  an issue…

Car in Store?

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

While I am waiting to finish the oil cooler, I have put my car into our temporary store so we can carry on with other customer cars. You car see below the size difference between the Arachnid and a Juno…

The cooler should be here in a couple of weeks, but I have designed the second fuel tank and ordered all the refuelling equipment. Nothing has arrived yet, but activity will increase again when it all does!

Oil Cooler

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Although the oil cooling was much better, I have decided that I want to be able to control the temperature and be able to run tape over the cooler! This means that I need a CTR Developments oil cooler! We make these ourselves but do take quite a time, 5-6 weeks, but there is nothing better. However I needed to make a drawing for the cooler, hence the scribbles on the bodywork! Hopefully I will have it ready in time for the first race…

Generator

Monday, March 8th, 2010

I have now taken the generator out of the engine. You can see from the picture below that it is knackered! There is a burnt out set of windings, and hence no charging voltage of any worth. I dont remember it being like this when I rebuilt the engine, but it must have been damaged, and it has got worse and worse. I can only assume that the whole charging circuit was damaged as the reg/rec was also faulty when I first started up the engine.
