Electronics Panel

Monday, June 15th, 2009

The ECU, GCU etc all need to be mounted pretty securely, after all they are the most expensive/fragile bits! I had toyed with the idea of not making this panel, weight saving after all, but I decided in the end that I would feel like a complete plonker if they got damaged! However, as this panel is not really adding any extra stiffness, I made it from some thin ally sheet, the same stuff as for the duct bucks. Everything will be velcroed on with that manically expensive stuff, although it is actually quite good! Again this was then removed, keyed, glued and then riveted on.

The Assembly Continues

Monday, June 15th, 2009

While the sides were drying I thought I had better stick some more panels in. The glue is in a tube and its a pain to unblock the dried stuff from the nozzle so its just easier to get as much done as quickly as possible. Its not the most fun I have ever had, but at least, as I said before, the air rivetter, although it cant go into all the small spaces, does make it a lot easier, and actually more fun! For no real reason, apart from it was on the top of the pile, I decided to go with the seat pan next.

Sides On

Monday, June 15th, 2009

So with the floor on the next panels to go on were the sides. I have not been looking forward to these, a I knew that they wre going to be tricky to get on, as they needed to be flexed around some of the chassis members. The first jobbette was to apply generous amounts of tape to any member that might get scratched by the panels.

Floor On

Monday, June 8th, 2009

The first job on the assembly was to mount the floor. I have decided to both rivet and glue the panel for added stiffness. After spending an age drilling the paint out of all the rivet holes the first major job was to key the paint surface ready for the glue. I did this with a scotch pad as you can see below. I had thought about not painting all of the surfaces that would be glued but this was going to cause more problems than it was worth!

The Chassis is Painted!

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Well, the painter stuck to his word, in fact he actually did it cheaper than he said, and the chassis is back! You can see below that the colour match is pretty good, apparently its Izuzu orange or something (I have the code), to the panels, but I think the camera has bleached it a bit!
