The next major item to go onto the car was the exhaust. As the exhaust runs reasonably close to the cockpit, being a mid engined car, I have decided to wrap the exhaust to try a keep some heat away from the cockpit.
After measuring the length required, the wrap needs to soak in water.
Then you just wrap the wrapping around and around the pipes. I had some of the tie wraps supplied with the kit, but these seem to be pretty rubbish. The ball that pins the tie wrap moves in a slot, but that means it has to slacken before it locks up! Anyway, when wrapping the exhaust you need to try to almost wrap it so tight that the water is squeezed out. I secured the wrap using lock wire, so it should withstand the heat!
After the pipes were all dry, I then sprayed with the paint that comes in the kit. This seems to harden the wrap, and is supposed to make it withstand increased heat.
Once dry I then installed the exhaust. It was a bit of a puzzle to get it all back together, in fact I had to look at this blog for the original pictures of the exhaust to work out which pipe went where! I know there are gaps in the wrap where the springs hold it all together, but some must be better than none!
