Whilst the welder was all set up for the light plates, I thought I would get a few extra rear deck supports welded to the frame. You may remember that before the rear edge was only held on with 2 dzeus fasteners and so where it was cutout for the wing supports it twisted up and didnt sit flat. It was also able to bounce a little which would only lead to fracture so a few extra mounts were needed. I havent actually attached the dzeus fasteners yet, or indeed drilled anything for them, but that shouldnt take too long to do, well hopefully!

Rear Support Frame
Sunday, April 12th, 2009Lights
Sunday, April 12th, 2009There has been a bit of discussion recently about the requirement for rear lights. I have always read the blue book as saying that you need them, but they have never seemed to enforce this rule, until now. Also, having somewhat thought that I might like to enter other races from time to time, having brake lights is a must, so I am going to put them on. I can always take them off if the rules are modified to save weight. While I was thinking about this I thought that I might aswell have some indicators, as when doing a driver change indicating that you are pulling in has got to at least give the chap behind some clue as to what you are doing!
I have decided to go for LED lights. They are a little more expensive, but should be much more rugid, and as there are no bulb connections to get right, this should help aswell! So the first item on the list was to work out how far apart to space them!

Mirrors
Saturday, April 11th, 2009After sorting out the doors I turned my attention to the mirrors. It quickly became apparent that mounting the mirror to the door was going to be a bit silly. the whole thing was going to vibrate and the view from the mirror would be almost nill! So I borrowed the central mirror from the 935, seeing as it is being stripped for painting anyway, and just stuck it on the front of the spider.
Doors
Saturday, April 11th, 2009If you ask anyone in bodywork what the worst job is, I almost guarantee they will say ‘doors’! But his was the next thing on the list, so after procrastinating for a while they had to be done! The first issue was where to hinge them from. I tried every possible conceivable arrangement but this was what I came up with. In fact it is the same as Jon Lee, but hey, there you go! Now some will say ‘why not a true gull wing style’ but most people seem to think this will blow off as the front edge will want to rise up as the air passes over it, unless you have a LOAD of catches to hold it down!
A Little More Lightening
Friday, April 10th, 2009OK, so I know this is not exactly saving much, and the best way of losing weight is too lose it from heavy things, like the battery…, but as I had machined holes in the compressor plate, I thought I should really machine the battery/extinguisher plate aswell.
