Further Splitter Work

Picking up where I left off, it was time to make the diffusers. The best way to cut the carbon was to use an angle grinder with a cutting disk, however beware, the dust is NASTY! So after cutting the shapes and then rubbing down the edges, and trimming the strands of kevlar, I was left with this.

Luckily they actually turned out to be the right size for the apertures cut into the splitter real.

The diffusers protrude further rearward than the rear edge of the splitter, and I just had to double treble check that the wheel wouldn’t hit them on full lock. I had thought about this before but is easy to make mistakes or incorrect assumptions! Fortunately it was all OK and there is quite a large clearance between wheel and diffuser. However, when the tyre picks up rubbish from the track, or as the tread is shed from the surface this gap should help increase the life of the diffuser as they wont get hit with too much rubber etc.

Wheel/Diffuser Clearance
So after repeating for the second diffuser, it all ended up looking like this. All starting to look pretty techy…
