Rear Deck

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

As I mentioned before I have booked the car in to have the exhaust made. This is set in stone and so if I miss the date I will have to wait for a while, which I really dont want to do! However for them to make the exhaust they need to know what they have to miss. The rear deck of the car is mounted, but up to this point I hadn’t bothered attaching it to the frame. I was just a little worried that when i tow the car the rear deck might break if not attached at the rear bouncing over the bumps. So on with a couple of dzues fasteners. The first job was to drill a pilot hole from underneath through both the ally and the glass, making sure that the spring will fit!

Further Splitter Work

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Picking up where I left off, it was time to make the diffusers. The best way to cut the carbon was to use an angle grinder with a cutting disk, however beware, the dust is NASTY! So after cutting the shapes and then rubbing down the edges, and trimming the strands of kevlar, I was left with this.

Splitter Developments

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

I went to the chandlers and picked up the steel cables and turnbuckles as well as a selection of eyes. I then drilled the front chassis gusset and bolted on one of the eyes and strung the splitter as shown below.

AI Show

Monday, January 12th, 2009

We visited the AI show on Friday. It was quite useful this year, even if the economy seems to have wiped out half of the stands! We met up with friends, suppliers and competitors alike. There were some very interesting stands, especially for bikesports/bescr with Reynard releasing their ‘Inverter’. This looks like a proper piece of kit, as you would expect from Reynard, and it is aimed squarely at the grid of bikesports, so could this be the car to beat. Obviously it will have teething problems I am sure but when its sorted should be rapid! We shall have to see…

Anyway, also met up with the BESCR boys, which was good, I can now finally put faces to names, although I am slightly worried as Iain seemed to ‘recognise’ us….! hmmm. Anyway, seeing the speads on the stand has made me want to get mine on track even more.

However we have a family illness which obviously must take priority, but hopefully things will stay reasonably on track.
I did managed to spend a little time in the workshop on Saturday working on the splitter. Unfortunately I left the camera in Loughborough, but I will try to post up some pics next week.

Exhaust

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Only a minor update, but the car is now booked in to have the exhaust made! The car is going in on the 9th of Feb, although I will actually take in on the Saturday before as I will be a work on Monday so that’s a no go!

The exhaust is something a little special, I will put up some pics when its done!
There is a little prep work to be done, but in the main the car could go today. I just have to mock up a fake no-go area where the diffuser will be, prolly out of chicken wire, and just remove the floor, the cliquos scrape along the floor otherwise as they extend to about 50mm and the ground clearance is 45mm!! The only other thing that needs to be done beforehand is to dzeus the rear deck down, its only two dzeus fasteners that need riveting on, then its all good to go!

Anyway, there should be enough time to finish off mocking up the radiator duct in cardboard and perhaps finish both ducts in ally. Don’t think i will have chance to do the wheel arch vents but it depends how the others go!
