More Splitter

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

The splitter needs some method of holding the front bodywork down. I had toyed with the idea of using dzeus fasteners, and I may have to revert to using them, but I am trying something different first as I think it will be easier/quicker to put the front on and off. I am using the return on the bodywork, trapped under an aluminium ‘ledge’ to stop the front from lifting. I had thought of cutting a large think strip of ally that matched the curve of the front but this seemed a little heavy to me, so I have decided to make up some bits just for the job. These started out as ally bar, just cleaned up on the lathe, about 10mm thick.

Continuing On With The Splitter

The next task was to make up the actual solid bars. They are infact made from ally tube, but solid when compared to the string! This actually took ages. Maybe I am not good at it but getting the ends cut to line up with the bobbins was a nightmare! In the end I think we have a lot of inch long ally tube with all sorts of end shapes, maybe they will come in useful…Picking up where I left off last week, the first job was to screw the rubbing strips onto the underside of the splitter main. You can see that the top of the splitter is now covered in all the different sketch lines, hopefully the paint with mask them all…
