Lynx AE ‘s reverse uses a sprocket bolted to the gearbox output shaft to drive the car in reverse. The sprocket also doubles as the nut. Obviously there is a slight issue with tightening up the sprocket as you cant use a socket! However this has been thought through, and, as you can see below the sprocket has holes in it to use to get purchase.

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008Diff Mounts
Wednesday, September 17th, 2008As I have previously said I am going to experiment with a different diff. Of course the diff has a different offset to the other one, and so I was forced to realign it somewhat! So that I can use the original diff I did not want to cannibalise the original diff plates. This meant a bit of a rethink, but I think I now have a pretty nice solution to the problem. I have decided to hard mount the diff to the engine cradle, this removing a link in the train from diff to engine to aid alignment, and should mean that the diff wont move when power is applied and then removed, BUT does mean it has to be aligned correctly.
The first thing then was to draw up some plates. These should get the diff in the same place as the original, and so everything else should fit.
Cams
Sunday, September 14th, 2008The next job on the engine was/is the Cams. First up was to assemble them. You have to press on the bearing. Again I used the press and found a suitable sized socket that just pressed on the inner race so as not to damage anything. Then, you have have to press on the sprocket carrier, again the same thing so I have not bother to upload another pic.
Finishing Off The Diff
Saturday, September 13th, 2008I have finished up assembling the diff this evening. To be honest all that was left was to make the O rings. I had bought a length of material from the local factors and they just said to glue it together with super glue and it should be OK. So, fingers crossed.
Now I say its all done. I do however need to finish off the piece that goes between the plates, but hopefully it will be done soon, then it will all be done
On With The Pistons And Head
Monday, September 8th, 2008This evening I got time to do a bit more to the mill. I was a little concerned about getting the block on, as the older Porsches have individual barrels so its easy to guide the piston up, but with the busa you have to do all four at once :S
Anyway, it had to be done, and unfortunately I couldn’t think of any super douper sneaky methods, if anyone knows any please let me know! So first of all I got all four pistons on, making sure not to drop the circlips down into the bottom end!
