So, over the Easter weekend I decided to finish the strip of the hayabusa. First of all Dad and I finished stripping the head. The valves were absolutely covered in carbon, slightly strange but there you go.
The next job was to attack the bottom end, I am having the crank knife edged and balanced so I need to remove it. First of all I removed the barrel. This left the pistons exposed, they are in absolutely perfect condition, which reminds me if anyone wants a set of secondhand hayabusa rods and pistons I have a set going cheap! After removing the rest of the ancillaries and the pistons, the next job was to split the cases. Luckily I have the haynes manual again here so I thought I wouldn’t miss any of the through bolts. How foolish I was. We spent about 15 minutes completely stuck as to why the cases wouldn’t come apart. Then dad had the bright idea to remove the balancing shaft and underneath was the last bolt. After removing this the cases came apart easily.
The crank then came out and again looks in perfect condition.
