Extinguisher Pipe

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

My extinguisher is all plumbed up to use 10mm tube. The fittings are push on, which make it very easy and quick to manufacture. The kit came with 4 nozzles, 3 ‘T’ fittings and all of the electronic gubbings. As there a 4 nozzles I suppose I should use all 4 as it will be calibrated for 4, and after reading the blue book a bit more, it seems to make sense to squirt 2 at me and 2 in the engine bay where fire may occur. Like the copper brake pipe this tube also comes wound up, so again my first move was to unwind the tube.

Cockpit Layout II

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Next on the list was to finalise the cockpit layout. After previously reading in the blue book that the fire extinguisher should be in the fore and aft direction in the car, I decided to ring Lifeline. They informed me that the rule was perhaps out of date and advised me to actually mount it across the car.So, after I had made the ring, I scribed the marks for the battery box onto a cockpit plate. I have decided not to mount the battery and extinguisher directly onto the floor due to its weight. As this plate is riveted to the chassis I will not be able to use a standard nut onto the bottom of the plate, due to the lack of access. Hence I am using clinchnuts

I then drilled the holes on this plate 11mm, the size for the clinchnuts, and drilled a large countersink.
