TFE Brake Pipe

Friday, December 28th, 2007

After looking at the copper pipes, it was onto the flexible pipes from the copper to the caliper. These pipes are not the standard rubber lined aeroquip as the extreme pressure generated in a brake system would burst the pipe. The pipes are still braided but have a PTFE lining ( I think) but if ordering the pipe from THINK it is the TFE stuff. For the high pressure lines Iam using the forged fittings as they are stronger then the swept ones, admittedly they don’t look as good by nevermind! On the caliper I have used swivel fittings so as the wheel rises and falls it shouldnt tend to undo the fitting.

Copper Brake Pipes

Friday, December 28th, 2007

After making the brake pipes to the cylinders, next was to have a look at the making the copper pipes from the master cylinders to the calipers. (Although i need to borrow Tony’s flaring tool). I have decided to run the pipes in copper tube, as we have suffered from the TFE brake pipe flexing and the brake pedal becoming spongy. So hopefully i can borrow the tool over the weekend and crack on!

On the 27th December I received the master cylinders from Race Parts

Resevoir Brake Pipes

So since I am 1 90 degree -12 fitting short, I thought I may aswell make the brake pipes from the reservoir to the master cylinders. These are made in exactly the same method as all the other aeroquip pipes, apart from that as they are smaller diameter they tend to be much easier to make. (and less dangerous)

Oil Pipes

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Well, after the excitement of Christmas its time to get back out into the workshop. The next thing on the list, which i have the bits for, was to make the oil pipes to and from the oil cooler. The pipes are -12 aeroquip, which is a ridiculous price, but fortunately the nice guys at Think Automotive have given me quite good discount. So the first thing to do was to push the 90 degree fitting onto on end of the pipe and then screw it to the cooler. Putting the fittings onto the end of the aeroquip is not too tricky but can be frought with danger. You have to push the fitting onto the pipe quite hard, but then the strands from the braiding obviously go straight through your fingers!!
