Oil Cooler

March 8th, 2010

Although the oil cooling was much better, I have decided that I want to be able to control the temperature and be able to run tape over the cooler! This means that I need a CTR Developments oil cooler! We make these ourselves but do take quite a time, 5-6 weeks, but there is nothing better. However I needed to make a drawing for the cooler, hence the scribbles on the bodywork! Hopefully I will have it ready in time for the first race…

Generator

March 8th, 2010

I have now taken the generator out of the engine. You can see from the picture below that it is knackered! There is a burnt out set of windings, and hence no charging voltage of any worth. I dont remember it being like this when I rebuilt the engine, but it must have been damaged, and it has got worse and worse. I can only assume that the whole charging circuit was damaged as the reg/rec was also faulty when I first started up the engine.

2nd Outing

February 14th, 2010

Well, I have been out for a second time. Unfortunately I dont have any photos as they were really on the case stopping you! :(

Anyway, in short, the modifications were all successful. The upright flex is now non existent, or at least you dont know about it. I may still make some new uprights, but at least now its not critical! The cooling was very much improved, which is a bonus!

The car onlya ran round for half a day, as in the afternoon I took and passed my ARDS test! So, hopefully I will get my license later this week, assuming I have filled it all in right!

Not sure when I will be out again, perhaps middle of March. Things are really busy at the moment, and I want to do some more changes/mods! To this end I have taken the engine out to look at the generator, as the charging circuit still doesnt work. I should have more on this next week! There is also a possible new sump pan to try.

Set Up

February 11th, 2010

After the mods to the cooling etc, it was time to try a different suspension setup. After the first test a few things came to light so we have changed pretty much everything. Thats not to say what we had before was wrong, but we think we can make it better, well you have to try! This ranges from new springs, camber and heights. Luckily we have  some MEGA laser tracking gauges which come is useful for low cars as out ‘DUNLOP’ style ones cant be viewed under the low splitters!

Revised Oil Cooling

February 11th, 2010

Another item that fell out of the first test was a slight oil temp problem. The water was fine, but the oil wasn’t! I knew when I made the original ducts that I may have been pushing things a little, but thought it was worth a go. So much so that I already had a plan B mocked up in my head. The revised duct takes all the air from the wheel arch and front diffuser and directs it towards the cooler. Hopefully this will work.
